Amazon’s Recent Royalty Pay & Price Change

Recently, Amazon dropped this on those of us who use KDP to handle our indie stuff:

Now, this normally doesn’t affect me too much (I sell more ebooks than print, like most authors who publish through KDP), but it did cause me raise the price of A Christmas Surprise from $8.99 to $9.99 per print copy because of this. I hate doing that, partly because I priced the kids book low so, you know, parents might actually be interested in buying it for their kids. Weird concept here, but I want to sell more print books.

So for those of you who might have noticed I bumped the price up a dollar, now you know why.

Other writing updates…

Larry Correia and I hammered out the contract for the final two Chloe Monster Hunter Memoirs books with Baen. Once the ink was dry, we immediately jumped into Book 2 and we’re already crushing it. If this pace continues, we’ll be turning it in by Dragoncon possibly. Yeah, it’s motoring along that fast. Then we’ll start look at when we’re going to turn in Book 3, but I do have something else to finish before then. That’ll be easy.

Bounty Hunter (Book 1 of Quintus Fox) is done and with the alpha reader at the moment. As soon as I get it back, it’s off to the editor and then formatting. We’re right on track with where I thought we’d be. I love the Firefly vibe this series has as a whole. You can still preorder a copy.

I’m getting stories in for both Monster Hunter Files Vol. 2 and Chaos and Consequences. I’m hoping both will be out in 2026. If this pace continues, I might have something like five books out from Baen next year. Wild.

If you’re going to be in Winston-Salem, NC on May 17th at 2:00PM, Rob Hampson and I are doing a meet-and-greet signing, Q&A session for the Black Tide Rising series, and whatever other shenanigans we can get away with and not piss off the Barnes & Noble people while doing so.

Health Updates…

I’ve been reluctant to post about anything because they found a new spot and biopsied it last week. The dermatologist said that people with my stage of melanoma tend to develop more in the area where the first is, and sometimes it can hide in scar tissue. So if you were wondering why I haven’t updated elsewhere more information, now you know. I’m still waiting for the report and hoping that it’s a big nothing burger and the treatments are working 1000000%.

  1. My mom just got her first melanoma excised today. I’m hoping it’s her last. I’m hoping the same thing for you and that you just have a scar with a sense of humor.
