Suspense Driven Mercenaries

Lebron James needs to write fiction novels.

After two years of building up enough suspense to kill an entire herd of cattle, he set the stage of his story with the most heartbreaking song and dance this side of a Lifetime movie. It was a masterful buildup of suspense, with the “will he or won’t he?” publicity buzz that most authors would kill their first born to garner.

So just how do you build up that sort of suspense in your novel? How do you go about leaving the reader ready to become your number one fan (ala King) just to find out what happens next?
