Fantasy Shenanigans

January is shaping up to be quite the month.

My first ever fantasy series, A Cycle of Shadow and Light, can finally be talked about a little bit. Still can’t tell everything about it, but I can say my co-author and I see this as (at least) a six book series. Considering my productivity levels, I figure we’ll have these six books done by 2023 at the latest. Book 1 of A Cycle of Shadow and Light is titled THE EMISSARY OF SHADOW. I’m writing this series with NYT bestselling author/editor Gary Poole, who I’ve worked with in the past in John Ringo’s Black Tide Rising universe. I’ve known Gary for a number of years and we’re both stupid excited about the series. Next update I should have even bigger news to share!

There are certain thematic elements of the series I can’t talk about yet, but I can tell you one thing — the prologue sets the most annoying fantasy trope on its head.

My anthology I’m editing for Baen Books, Chicks in Tank Tops, is coming along smoothly. I have received one story already from one of the major contributors, and I’m curious and excited to see what the other authors bring to the table as well. The really fun thing about anthologies is the different voices from each author telling their own story. The hard part is determining where in the anthology each story should go!

On the health front, I’m not dying — yay! — but I sometimes feel like I am. All those different sporting activities I did when I was younger and dumber are coming back to haunt me in my old age (I’m 42 and feel older than I am). On the other hand, I’m glad I didn’t live in a plastic bubble. I really enjoyed all of those experiences. On the other other hand, the plastic bubble would have prevented the knee injuries, the shoulder injuries, as well as the nerve damage in the neck. So… I guess it’s a wash.

I’m finishing up my second super secret project this week, then I’ll be turning my attention back onto Shadow & Light (ooh, that is so much easier to type out). I think we already have the title for Book 2, and at the same time I’ll be outlining Books 3 & 4. I wasn’t kidding when I said we’ll have the first six books finished by 2023. They might not be published that fast, but they’ll definitely be written.

My original goal was to finish Sunshine’s story in the Four Horsemen Universe this year as well, but my schedule just became crazy-stupid busy, so now I’m not so certain when anything not related to the three projects I am currently working on will be finished.

Don’t despair, though. There are many authors in the 4HU who are continuing the main storyline. There’ll be plenty of amazing stories to be read.
