Here in North Carolina, we don’t get snow like I used to back in Colorado. No, they get this stuff they claim is snow but anybody who has seen real snow before knows that it’s really ice.
The ice storm that hit us here didn’t knock out the power (thankfully), but it has made leaving home a bit impossible. Not only are the roads utter crap, there’s more on the way.
But… cold weather makes for a productive Jason, and the past two days have seen an insane amount of writing on new material.
Melissa and I hit a major milestone for Book 2 of The Bronze Legion. Vessels Grim and Daring is ahead of schedule and we will easily make our March 31 deadline for a December 2026 release. Yes, that includes her stopping for a few weeks to work on the edits for Griffin Corps 2.
I have almost completed edits for the short stories submitted for my next anthology, Chaos and Consequences, which should be out in November 2026. I had one story need to be rewritten but fortunately the author is quick. I’m still on track for the turn that in next month.
However, I’d forgotten about a short story I promised to a buddy of mine, and that due date is Jan 31. Fortunately, the aforementioned cold weather jump started the creative process and I cranked out 6,000 words in a day. I should be finishing the short story tonight and, once my first readers takes a look at it and tells me what’s wrong, it’ll be sent in with a few days to spare.
Then it’s on to the next short story project I just signed a contract for… last week? Yeah, I think so. That one is super exciting because it’s back in a universe I know very well, but with an all-new cast of characters. I think this anthology will be coming out in Spring 2027 from Baen but I’m not entirely certain yet. That due date is March 1, but considering my track record with writing short stories…
Quintus Fox 3 & 4 have both been outlined and ready to go. Once we finish up Vessels Grim and Daring, I’ll get back to work on those two books while wrapping up the next Monster Hunter Memoirs novel with Larry.
2026 is getting start with a bang. Gotta keep up the pace to make it the best year yet!
