Go reach for your every day book. Open it up. Go on, I'll wait. Okay, now quick: what is the main character's name? Is it Bob? Kendra? Owen? Names are vital to a story, more than just identifying the main character. Names help the book flow, make the book readable and keeps the interest of … Continue reading Hi! My Name Is…

Redshirts and a Kidney
We all know what redshirts are. No? Huh... Well here's an explanation. Over at Monster Hunter Nation, Larry Correia is auctioning off redshirts. But this is for a good cause, to help a friend get a kidney transplant. More information can be found here. It's for a good cause. Really. I mean, it's a good … Continue reading Redshirts and a Kidney
Submitting Question
You see, with an interview, you submit your resume and application (usually online) and you wait weeks... months... with no word. Meanwhile, you chuck out another dozen to two dozen resumes amongst other companies and hope for the best. Eventually you hear back from one or more and you begin the next step in the process of being hired.
Know When To Fold ’em
Some people call those who throw themselves into the literary line of fire "sounding boards". I call them brave.
Jason’s Being Lazy Today
Hey, we all have those days. Mine just come in bunches. You might also know them as "weeks". So instead of busting my butt trying to come up with a topic (other than the website layout update), I'm going to steer you to other bloggers and writer websites. First, Sarah Hoyt talks about writing to … Continue reading Jason’s Being Lazy Today
Word Crack Anonymous
"Hi, my name is Jason and I peddle word crack." Hi Jason. "It all started about nine years ago, when I was just a wee young man of 23. My service in the military was done and I was in the midst of attending school. I didn't mean to, really. I just wanted to get … Continue reading Word Crack Anonymous
Buckley Strikes Back
Joe Buckley of the Fifth Imperium has started to post snippets of Corruptor over at his site. However, since the first six chapters are already up here, it'll be awhile until he's passed what I have here. Still, he also snippets upcoming Baen releases. He was cool enough to go ahead and post mine despite … Continue reading Buckley Strikes Back
Errata
For those of you who might be interested, as I write more Christian Cole stuff I've been writing up an encyclopedia file for it as well. If CC does well enough, maybe I can release it as a companion accessory. These novels, though targeted for the YA audience, has been one of the best things … Continue reading Errata
Book Review – Under The Dome
All in all, it wasn't a bad book. I was expecting, almost from the start, the nasty, giving the reader the bird twist that he pulled at the end of the Dark Tower series. Thankfully, he doesn't do that so much as reiterate to a normal person that in life, you are at the mercy of an apathetic bully and hope that the bully decides to quit kicking you eventually. This disturbs me, but I'll cover that later.
Surgical Precision
I hate doing the dishes. It's tiresome, repetitive, and the damn things just make themselves dirty again. I swear I have nothing to do with them getting dirty again. But dishes are the bane of my existence, and as soon as I can figure out an elegant way of having people over for dinner and … Continue reading Surgical Precision
Quick News
Just got back the second (third?) round of edits from the publisher. Not nearly as bad as the first time (I can learn!), and the new editor understand my writing style and voice a lot better than the last. This is a good thing! Off to save the cheerleader by finishing these edits.
Review: The Hunger Games
There's something that is markedly dystopian in Suzanne Collins' book The Hunger Games. It's evident early on that this book is set in the former United States in the future, after a short period of rebellion by the thirteen districts against the Capitol in the nation of Panem. It's dark, brooding and starts off with our narrator and heroine, Katniss Everdeen, struggling to keep her family fed and alive.
Oh, And One More Thing…
...I'll be doing two books reviews here in the next few days, as well as uploading a new interview with a NYT bestselling author (yes, you can probably who I coerced into doing an interview... that poor bastard). I'll be reviewing "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins, and "Under the Dome" by Stephen King. Guess … Continue reading Oh, And One More Thing…
Distracted
Have you noticed I've been quiet? No? Damn... Just about to start tech week for My Fair Lady right now, so my brain has been in "acting mode" and not "creating literary crap known as Cordoverse" mode. I have done some writing, not a terrible amount, but enough to make me say "Damn, I suck … Continue reading Distracted
Modderpockin’ Muse
In the immortal words of a fictional character only hardcore MilSF geeks would get, my muse is a "modderpocker". I swear that this isn't fair. I am done with Corruptor and the sequels. I never want to see those damn books again in my life. Really. Okay, I might want to see the cover but … Continue reading Modderpockin’ Muse
