DAUGHTER OF THE PRIDE is finished! Yay! It's just under 100,000 words long and took me 3 months to write (counting my 3 week lost period when I had shingles, so really I wrote this one in 9 weeks). It's a direct sequel to SONS OF THE LION, though takes place roughly 3-6 months later. … Continue reading Daughter of the Pride
2020 Helicon Award Winner
Let's be honest -- most authors don't write a book to go out and win awards. We typically write it because we have a story to tell. Anybody who writes a book just to win an award? Well, more power to them, I suppose. I found out today that SONS OF THE LION won the … Continue reading 2020 Helicon Award Winner
Abgesagt! Canceled! Cancelado?!
FantaSci is canceled. I, like everyone else, am upset but understand the convention staff's response due to the state of emergency being declared by the Governor of North Carolina. It really sucks because of how much fun I had last year, and how long I've been looking forward to this year's edition. However, so far … Continue reading Abgesagt! Canceled! Cancelado?!
XFL Week 4 — Non-Review
Copyright 2020 XFL No XFL review this week. Sorry. I'm on the home stretch of DAUGHTERS OF THE PRIDE and I don't want to stop. The XFL Review usually takes a few hours to compile because I go through all the games again, write up my thoughts, and compare stats. However, I did finish 2-2 … Continue reading XFL Week 4 — Non-Review
FantaSci Schedule
I'm not overly busy this coming FantaSci, which means I have a lot of time to cause shenanigans do things I normally wouldn't have time to do. I actually get to sleep in on Sunday morning which, if you know me, is a huge deal (I'm usually on the earliest panels possible because they love … Continue reading FantaSci Schedule
Home Stretch
I've been quiet this week (I actually posted twice this week already, but those were scheduled in advance) because I am currently on the home stretch of my next Four Horsemen novel, DAUGHTERS OF THE PRIDE. I can see the ending, and the middle is coming along nicely. There's a few parts I want to … Continue reading Home Stretch
Award Season Is At Hand
Man, has my email really blown up the past 48 hours with people asking me to conisder them in my nominations process. I read them all, mind you. It's interesting to see some of the people asking me to nominate their book. Some I haven't read, some aren't even out yet (how???), and some I … Continue reading Award Season Is At Hand
XFL Week 3 In Review
Copyright 2020 XFL This was actually the best week of the season, hands down. We saw a major upset (well, it was a major upset in my book), some really good shootouts and quarterbacks playing better than they have all season (and in one case, far worse). My beloved Defenders got spanked, and it wasn't … Continue reading XFL Week 3 In Review
The Recommended Series — Part 2 — The Vampire Empire Series
Let it be known that because of their fourth book in this universe, The Geomancer, I'm giving it a pass on the "no trilogies" rule for the Recommended Series series (I really need a better title). This being said, let me welcome you into the amazing alternate universe world of the Vampire Empire, where humanity … Continue reading The Recommended Series — Part 2 — The Vampire Empire Series
XFL Week 2 In Review
Copyright 2020 XFL Let's preface this with an asterisk: I really only enjoyed watching two games this weekend. The other two left me feeling blah. Much like NFL teams, without a quality QB nobody's really going to go anywhere, no matter how hard you play. And in the XFL, like the NFL, a quality QB … Continue reading XFL Week 2 In Review
Maintain the Flow
Sometimes the words flow and life is good. Other times, well, it's like a tooth extraction gone horribly wrong. This past week has been an interesting mesh of being both unable to write and yet still averaging almost 2,000 words per day. I've been focusing mostly on DAUGHTERS OF THE PRIDE, though I did work … Continue reading Maintain the Flow
The Recommended Series — Part 1 — The Dresden Files
I started thinking about doing this multi-part series whenever I hit a brick wall in my own writing. Today, for example, I've only managed to get 500 words on before my brain decided it did not want to cooperate. Which is fine, really. I can bludgeon it back into shape later. The trick in writing, … Continue reading The Recommended Series — Part 1 — The Dresden Files
5 (More) Authors You Should Be Reading
Yesterday's post was actually quite the hit, though you can imagine just how many people responded to me privately with "why wasn't so-and-so on the list?" Plus, nobody got mad at me about the clickbait headline. Go me! (editor's note: if you're going to steal this list, please acknowledge where it came from. I appreciate … Continue reading 5 (More) Authors You Should Be Reading
5 Authors You Should Be Reading Right Now
Ugh, that is such a clickbaity headline, I'm tempted to change it before I hit "publish". If it still says "5 Authors You Should Be Reading Right Now" then congratulations, you've seen that my trollishness outweighs my maturity level by a factor of ten. A few on this list are brand new. Others have been … Continue reading 5 Authors You Should Be Reading Right Now
Always Asking Questions
The shingles are mostly gone now minus some scarring (it looks like I was shot in the ribs with a shotgun), so of course my body decides it's time to get sick. This would be amusing if not for the amount of writing time I missed in January. I'm just wondering... how many of you … Continue reading Always Asking Questions
